What is Cow's Milk Allergy?

We often hear from concerned parents that they are afraid that their little one has a cow's milk allergy. When a baby has a cow's milk allergy, the child's immune system reacts violently to the proteins in cow's milk. Fortunately, the number of infants who develop a cow's milk allergy in the first year of life is 2 to 3%. Children with a cow's milk allergy can only tolerate very small amounts of proteins from cow's milk. Fortunately, children are unlikely to suffer from the allergy for long, because cow's milk protein allergy often disappears at a young age.

And then?

If there is a medically diagnosed cow's milk allergy, goat's milk is not a suitable alternative because there is a high risk of an allergic cross-reaction.

Intolerance

There is a larger group of babies who are not allergic, but do not respond well to cow's milk. This is called cow's milk intolerance and often causes complaints such as cramps, constipation and mild eczema.
